Purpose The first edition of ISWLA was dedicated to the celebration of the 50th laser anniversary in the world. The large appreciation of the attendees encouraged both SPIE and OSA Student Chapters to organize the second edition this year when the SPIE Romania student Chapter celebrates 10 years since the recognition by the SPIE Board. It is the best opportunity for students to report their experience as young scientists, to share it to other participants and discuss about the opportunities to approach a scientific career nowadays. The importance for young researchers to belong to the professional associations such as SPIE, OSA, EOS will be reported by the members; the opportunities to enhance their professional level by promoting the international cooperation will be explored. The participation of other Student Chapters is facilitates the exchange of experience, allows thinking and promotes new project, as well as, good practices. The involvement of young researchers in organizing scientific events adds new values to their professional profile as the management skill and the innovative spirit. It will improve the chances of the participating young scientist to continue a scientific career. The main goal of ISWLA is to encourage the international cooperation between students, young scientists, physicists, mathematicians, engineers, biologists, medical doctors and educators from all over the world, promote interdisciplinary innovative activities, change of information and collaboration. The prospect to develop in Romania the ELI-"Extreme Light Infrastructure” is very well served by conferences such as ISWLA’11. It is a pleasure to invite under – graduate, Ms. and PhD students, young scientists from different scientific areas, interested in lasers and their applications to share their experience and to discuss, in a professional but friendly environment, the most recent results in laser physics, optics and photonics.
