    1. Participation in the conferences on Optics and Photonics by Chapter
members (travel grants + conference fee)

    2. Organization of presentation of IRE SPIE-OSA Student chapters on the Student conference 2008 at the Physical Dept. of KNU – April 2008

Description: Within the framework of the Student scientific conference on the Physical faculty of Karazin Kharkov National University, the presentation of activity and benefits of IRE SPIE Student Chapter will be shown.

Expected outcome: We believe that the organization of presentation of activity and benefits of IRE SPIE Student Chapter will enable us to recruit new members and to adjust communications with Karazin Kharkov National University and the youth optical departments and organizations.

    3. Optics & Photonics Section in frame of the IV Kharkiv Young Scientists Conference on "Low Temperature Physics", ILTPE, Kharkiv, May 2008

Description: Students and young scientists from different universities and research institutes will be invited to participate in the Optics & Photonics in order to a) listen to invited talks; b) make oral and poster presentation of their own results; c) to know more about SPIE and activities of the IRE SPIE Student chapter. Within this O&P section the Contest for the Best presentation made will be carried out. Here the scientific value of the results and the quality of presentations will be judged. The winners will get Honorary Diplomas and Awards from the IRE SPIE Student chapter.

Expected outcome: It will be the first time for the O&P section to be organized in frame of the YSC conference on "LOW TEMPERATURE PHYSICS" . The introduction of the new section will attract attention of the participants both to the Science of Light and to the activities of the local IRE SPIE Student chapter. Out experience base on the success of the similar Event organized within the YSC on Radiophysics & Microwave Electronics, held in IRE NASU Dec. 2006, shows a significant growth of interest to the Chapter Activities caused by the Event. We believe that organization of the OP session will enable us to recruit new members and to adjust communications with ILTPE and the youth optical organizations.

    4. Contest for the Best master's thesis in Optics&Photonics field, May 2008

Description: The Contest for the Best master's thesis in Optics@Photonics field will be first organized jointly by the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics OSA-SPIE Student chapter, Kharkiv National University OSA-SPIE Student chapter and IEEE LEOS Student Chapter of Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics. Students from different Kharkiv institutions, such as Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics and Kharkov Polytechnic Institute will be invited to participate in this contest in order to a) improve interest to investigation of Optics@Photonics probrems among students; b) to stimulate students to take part in scientific researches; c) to know more about OSA and activities of the IRE OSA Student chapter. The winners will get Honorary Diplomas and Awards from the IRE OSA Student chapter.

Expected outcome: It will be the first time for the Contest for the Best master's thesis in Optics@Photonics field to be organized. Participating in this contest, students will improve the quality of their master's degree thesis. We believe that organization of the Contest for the Best master's thesis will enable us to recruit new members and to adjust communications with Kharkiv institutions and the youth optical organizations.

    5. III Young Researchers Career Development Workshop: "Bridging a gap between education and career in electromagnetics and photonics" (YRCDW-08), December 2008

Description: The YRCDW first organized in 2006 jointly by the Kharkiv National University OSA Student chapter and the Young Scientist Council of IRE NASU now became an annual one-day seminar which brings together students and young scientist from difference parts of Ukraine. The program of the seminar usually includes invited lectures, presentations of activities of scientific professional organizations (OSA, SPIE, IEEE, etc. and their local student chapters) and master-classes. More details are available at:   http://www.ire.kharkov.ua/ysc/rus/conf/yrcdw.html .

Expected outcome: YRCDW has already become a spot for interaction for student and young scientists from different professional organizations including student chapters of OSA, SPIE, IEEE, as well as local Young Scientists Councils existing in many Academic institutions. It provides people an opportunity to communicate, share experience and thus learn from each other. Invited lectures presented by the distinguished scientists attract students. The presentations of chapters and councils activities highlight the available opportunities for students willing to continue their scientific careers. Participation in YRCDW is an opportunity for our chapter to present ourselves as well as attract students to enter IRE NASU.

    6. Optics & Photonics Section in frame of the VIII Kharkiv Young Scientists Conference on "Radio physics & Microwave Electronics ", IRE NASU, Kharkiv, December 2008
