  • I International Young Scientists Conference on "Low Temperature Physics” (Jun 7-11, 2010)

    General Information

    The 1-st International young scientists conference "Low Temperature Physics” was held traditionally at the Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ILTPE NASU). This year ICYS-LTP-2010 was covered both 50-th anniversary of Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering and 50-th anniversary of ADVANCING THE LASER .Traditionally, the main goals of the conference, as a previous years, were to help young scientists and students from different research institutes and universities to get in touch with each other, to listen to review talks on hot topics presented by leading scientists, and to try their own skills in scientific presentations. This first international conference ICYS-LTP-2010 gathered over 150 young scientists. Most of them were from different parts of Ukraine, 15 from FSU and European Countries as well as Czech Republic, Germany, Russia etc.

    As usual, session on Optics and Photonics (OP) was held due to the support of OSA/SPIE Joint Chapter of Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics and with the support of IEEE MTT of Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics.

    Preliminary program of the OP Session included:

    Invited Lecturer from OSA: Andrea Alù, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, USA "Optical Nanoantennas: Matching, Tuning and Wireless communications in the visible”

    Invited Lecturer: Prof. Sergii I. Tarapov, Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine "THE TRANSPARENCY OF LEFT-HANDED MATEIALS:EXTRA-HIGH FREQUENCY EXPERIMENT”

    SPIE Invited Lecturer: Katarina Svanberg, Department of Oncology & Lund University Medical Laser Centre, Lund University, Sweden "Diagnostics and Treatment of Tumours using Laser Techniques” - Oral and poster presentations of the young scientists – participants of the ICYS-LTP-2010

    Invited talks–

    This year we have rare opportunity to listen 3 excellent lectures in frame of invited lecturer program. First of all we are thankful to our Student Chapter’s Advisor Prof. Sergii Tarapov for his lecture "THE TRANSPARENCY OF LEFT-HANDED MATEIALS: EXTRA-HIGH FREQUENCY EXPERIMENT”. The logical continue of this was lecture of other invited speaker Andrea Alu. His participation in our conference became possible due to the OSA Traveling Lecturer Program. He presented lecture named "Optical Nanoantennas: Matching, Tuning and Wireless communications in the visible” Both this hot topic lections was very interesting not only for participants but for lead scientist too. Some photo from these lections you can see below.

    Invited talk - Prof. Sergey Tarapov – Adviser of IRE SPIE SC

    Invited lecturer from OSA - Andrea Alu, Lecture "Plasmonic Cloaking”

    Due to the SPIE Traveling Lecturer Program the participants of the conference were able to hear the excellent lecture of Prof. Katarina Svanberg, Department of Oncology & Lund University Medica Laser Centre, Lund University, Sweden "Diagnostics and Treatment of Tumours using Laser Techniques”. This lecture was held for two session simultaneously, for both Optics & Photonics session and Biophysics session. It was amazing lecture, so bright and clear. Lecture of Katarina Svanberg attracted interest not only a young participants and scientist, but also medical workers from Kharkov’s medical center of radiology. You can see photos from this lecture bellow.

    But, Katarina Svanberg, not only made a wonderful lecture, she also actively and with pleasure participated in conferences work and social activity. Some moments you can see in the photos below:

    Oral presentations at O&P session

                                            Irina Doroshenko                      Nadiia Bondar                      Mariia Pashchenko

    The working language of the Session was English. The total number of abstracts submitted for the OP Session was 10 (6 oral and 4 posters).
    Geography of the participants of the OP Session included 9 institutions :

    · IRE NASU, Kharkiv;
    · ILTPE NASU, Kharkiv;
    · KNU, Kharkiv;
    · National Technical University of Ukraine «KPI», Kyiv
    · A.A. Galkin Donetsk Institute of Physics & Engineering NAS of Ukraine
    · Uzhgorod National University
    · Sumy State University
    · Institute for Physics of Microstructures RAS, Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia
    · Lugansk National University

    The weight geography of session point to the popularity of our conference and O&P session between Ukrainian and foreign University.

    Poster presentations

    As a previous time posters related to the Optics and Photonics were presented at the joint poster session which was organized in the lobby of the conference room and combined with a coffee break. The informal atmosphere helped participants to communicate more easily and attract attention of lead scientist of institute.

    Social program

    Thanks to support of OSA and SPIE, the welcome party, as a previous year, was accompanied by live music and was free for all the participants of Optic and Photonic session. But this time not only students took part in this party, our young invited speakers and not so young enjoyed party with us. I think, it was a remarkable event for all of us. Some photos from the party was shown early in the chapter devoted to Katarina Svanberg. And other bright photos you can see below:

    The contest on the Best Young Scientist Presentation in Optics and Photonics Award ( 8 June 2010 )

    In frame of Optics and Photonics session at I International Conference for Young Scientist "Low Temperature Physics –2010” was held the Contest on the best Young Scientist presentation in Optics and Photonics field. During the Optic and Photonic session 2 best reports was chosen. The lead scientist of Institute in Optics field was invited as Independent judges. One of them was our Advisor Prof.Sergii Tarapov. Our Joint IRE OSA & SPIE Student Chapter prepared special prizes for winners. It was Special certificate, Flash-discs and money prize: 200$ for 1-st place and 100$ for 2-nd place. And, of course, for Optics and Photonic session participants from the other city were organized a travel grants.

    The next people become winners:

    1-st plase for oral report "TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED KINETICS OF GROWING AND RELAXATION OF ALCOHOL CLUSTERS IN ARGON MATRIX” Doroshenko Iryna Irina was awarded by the Katarina Svanberg – president elect of SPIE. We were much favoured with this.

    2-nd plase for poster presentation "NONRECIPROCAL TRANSMISSION AND REFLECTION FROM STRUCTURE WITH NONCOLLINEAR MAGNETIZATIONS IN THE LAYERS” Bukhanko Artem
