Metamaterials Session
The first part of PL-UA Workshop was Metamaterials session devoted to artificial materials with unsual properties. It included Polish, Ukrainian and Russian talks on metamaterials. The total number of abstracts submitted for the Metamaterials Session were 8 young scientists talks and 1 poster. Presentations were followed with hot and fruitful discussions which made a great impact to the success of the event. Work language was English.
Thanks to IEEE LEOS Support, 1 travel grant on Metamaterials Session was given to Alexei Balmakov (Gomel, Byelorussia).
Anton Strashevsky from Karazin Kharkiv National University, presented by the best talk on this session ("EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION of LEFT-HANDED MEDIA PROPERTIES of THE STRUCTURE (FERRITE/FLAT WIRES), placed into WAVEGUIDE at the frequency range of 21- 40 GHz”), was awarded the diploma and money prize (50$) –sponsored by SPIE.

Optics & Photonics Session
The second part of PL-UA Workshop was Optics&Photonics session (in English) devoted to lasers, photonic fibers, photonic crystals etc. It included Polish, Ukrainian and Russian talks on optics and photonics. The total number of abstracts submitted for the Optics&Photonics English Session were 16 oral young scientists’ talks. Work language was English. Presentations were followed with hot and fruitful discussions which made a great impact to the success of the event. The detailed program of the Optics&Photonics Session is provided in Appendix B.
Mikhail Klimenko from Kharkov National University of Radioelectronics, presented by the best talk on this session ("COHERENT ELECTRON TRANSPORT THROUGH INJECTORS IN THE QUANTUM-CASCADE STRUCTURES WITH VERTICAL TRANSITIONS”), was awarded the diploma and money prize (50$) –sponsored by SPIE.
During Optics and Photonics Session
SPIE Polish-Ukrainian Student Chapter meeting.
The last part of PL-UA Workshop was SPIE Polish-Ukrainian Student Chapter meeting devoted to CV making and discussion of Polish-Ukraine scientific projects and THE VARIOUS SOURCES OF FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS IN POLAND AND UKRAINE. Each SPIE SC made the talk on these topics.
Welcome party and Polish guys at the Kharkov train station.
